Home Owner Spotlight: Ms. Ella McCall-Haygan

This Christmas in April 2025, we are honored to celebrate Ms. Ella McCall-Haygan, a dedicated homeowner and a pillar of her community. Recognizing her with home repairs is a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for her unwavering leadership and the profound impact she has made. Ella's lifelong commitment to uplifting others has touched countless lives, and it's deeply meaningful to now give back to someone who has given so much.

Ella's journey began in Washington, D.C., where she was raised by her mother, Alma Matthews, in the Shaw Cardoza area. Despite facing challenges while growing up, Ella's resilience never wavered. She took on various jobs, from babysitting to working as a live-in maid in New York, to support her family. Her experiences instilled in her a deep understanding of the struggles faced by many in her community.

Drawing from her own life, Ella founded "From Streets To Skills Social Services Inc.," a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. The organization offers literacy programs and a range of social services aimed at assisting the homeless, disenfranchised youth, and others in need. Through her leadership, Ella has created a supportive environment that empowers individuals to overcome adversity and build better futures.

Ella's dedication extends beyond her organization. She has been actively involved in community initiatives, including providing new coats to children through collaborations with local youth centers. Her faith, rooted in her upbringing at Shiloh Baptist Church and later experiences, has been a guiding force in her mission to serve others. Ella's life is a testament to the power of compassion and the difference one person can make.

As we honor Ella this Christmas in April, we not only acknowledge her as a homeowner but also as a beacon of hope and strength. Her story inspires us all to lead with empathy and to support those who dedicate their lives to the betterment of others. It's a privilege to give back to someone whose life's work has been centered on giving.
